Mosquito Control in the Garden – Mosquitoes and Effective Control Methods

Mosquitoes are among the most troublesome insects during the spring and summer season. They appear in gardens, on plots, terraces, and balconies, making it difficult to relax outdoors. When their numbers increase, home remedies are often not enough — in such cases, professional mosquito control becomes the most effective solution to reduce their population and activity.
In Poland, there are around 50 species of mosquitoes, with the most common being the common mosquito (Culex pipiens) and the malaria mosquito (Anopheles). They are most active from late spring to the end of summer, especially in conditions of high humidity and temperature.
What Does a Mosquito Look Like?
Adult mosquitoes typically reach 5–7 mm in length. They are characterized by:
a slender body
long, thin legs
narrow, transparent wings
a piercing-sucking mouthpart
During flight, they produce a characteristic buzzing sound.
Male mosquitoes have distinctly feathery antennae and feed on plant nectar. Only female mosquitoes bite, as they require blood from warm-blooded animals — including humans — to develop their eggs.

Mosquito Breeding – Why the Problem Grows Quickly
Mosquitoes breed in water environments. Females lay eggs on the surface of standing water, such as:
garden ponds
puddles
unattended containers
gutters
rainwater tanks
The life cycle consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Under favorable conditions, the entire cycle can take just a few days. This means mosquito populations can increase rapidly in a short time.

Where Are Mosquitoes Most Common?
Mosquitoes prefer humid, shaded, and wind-protected areas. They are most often found:
in gardens with dense vegetation
near hedges and shrubs
close to water sources
in damp areas
around recreational plots
In recent years, species typical of warmer climates have also begun to appear, extending the mosquito activity season.

Are Mosquitoes Dangerous?
In Poland, mosquito bites usually do not pose a serious health risk. The most common symptoms include:
redness
swelling
itching
mild allergic reactions
However, bites can be highly irritating, especially when mosquito populations are large. In animals, mosquitoes may transmit certain microorganisms.
How to Reduce Mosquitoes in Your Garden?
Home Methods
The most commonly used methods include:
mosquito nets
repellents (sprays, wristbands, coils)
insect lamps
removing standing water
These methods can reduce discomfort but usually do not solve the problem when mosquito populations are high.
Professional Mosquito Control – The Most Effective Seasonal Solution
When mosquito activity becomes intense, the most effective solution is professional mosquito control treatment.
The spraying process covers:
vegetation
shrubs
shaded areas
humid zones
building facades
The treatment reduces the number of adult mosquitoes and significantly limits their activity in the garden.
